Parliamentary Elections: No Unsanctioned Polls
Deputies “devoted to homeland” want to make independent pole cost $1,200

The upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for September 23 remain one of the most acute topics in news headlines even in spite of the fact that the elections are called knowingly undemocratic and falsified.
Today, Belarusian news feeds were marked with two more interesting pieces of news on the issue.

Thus, Chairman of the House of Representatives — the lower parliamentary chamber — Uladzimir Andrejchanka assured that only people “loyal to the homeland” should make it into the House of Representatives as a result of the September parliamentary elections while closing Parliament’s summer session, BelaPAN reports.
“The lawmakers have always constituted one of the forces that consolidate society during important periods of the country’s history,” Mr. Andrejchanka said.
“Today we should do everything possible to ensure that only people who are not indifferent to the fate of their homeland and ready to work double tides to cement the sovereignty of the country and serve the interests of the Belarusian people can make it into the parliament.”
“It is something what Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka oriented us toward in his annual message to the Belarusian people and parliament. The head of state specially emphasized the need for a swift and vigorous breakthrough for the country,” the Chairman highlighted.

The House of Representatives also gave the first reading to a bill of amendments that would establish a fine under for public opinion survey unsanctioned by the relevant authorities, says BelaPAN.
The fine would in particular be established for “illegal” polls asking people about their opinion of the political situation the country, a national referendum, or parliamentary and presidential elections.
It would equal 20 base rates (one base rate equals ca. $12) for individuals and up to 100 base rates for legal entities. For the repeat offense committed within one year, it would amount to between 10 and 50 base rates for individuals and between 20 and 200 base rates for juridical units.
Thus, people interested in independent opinion may pay $240 and organizations $1.200.
