Mega Storm Sandy Hits US East Coast, 14 reported Killed

Mega storm Sandy (or sometimes it is also called “frankenstorm”) hit the eastern part of the United States. According to USA Today, ca. 5.7mln Americans were affected by the storm. 14 are reported killed in the region.

Previously, it was reported that Sandy caused the death of around 60 people in the Caribbean Sea region.

Dozens of thousands of local residents were evacuated. In New York, NY, the public transportat was suspended, stock exchange trade and the UN meetings were cancelled. Also, , some 375,000 residents were ordered out of lower Manhattan and other areas, as the Hudson and East rivers began overflowing.

Sandy lost its hurricane status late on Monday as it neared the coast and collided with winter weather systems, but was still generating hurricane-strength winds, as BBC informs.
