As Marek Migalski office informs, the petition was sent as reports say that the prison administration tries to completely isolate the political prisoner: he is not allowed to meet with a priest, he does not receives parcels, press, etc, BelaPAN says.

Migalski highlights that such actions are considered as intentional isolation of the prisoner from the outer world to “psychologically brake him, deprive him of spiritual support and make an impression that everyone forgot about him and left him alone.”

The MP also reminds that the actions of the prison administration are nothing else but torture. But due to the fact that Belarus has ratified the Convention Against Torture, any cruel treatment in Belarusian prisons can’t take place.

Migalski urges the prison administration to stop the cruel and inhuman treatment of Statkievich and requires informing him why Statkievich hasn’t been allowed to meet a priest hitherto.

Mikalaj Statkievich remains the only imprisoned former presidential candidate.

He was many times offered to appeal for the presidential pardon, but he always refused. After this, the political prisoner has been experiencing constantly growing pressure.
