Well, ladies and gentlemen, it looks like the Belarusian opposition is going to try to unite again. “For Freedom” – this is the name of the new alliance, which will be guided by Aliaksandr Milinkevich. Yesterday the organizing committee of “For Freedom” held its first session.

But let us google Aliaksandr Milinkevich first. What do we find? “Leader of the Belarusian Opposition Aliaksandr Milinkevich received the 2006 Sakharov Prize…” “Belarus opposition leader Aliaksandr Milinkevich…” “Coveney nominated Aliaksandr Milinkevich, the leader of the Belarusian opposition…” “Mr. Aliaksandr Milinkevich, leader of the Democratic Movement and former presidential candidate…”

Hm… If Aliaksandr Milinkevich is the leader of the opposition, why then create a new movement, which sees its goal in uniting the opposition?

The fact is, that the coalition of democratic forces is not functioning. Every party leader drags the blanket, in order to cover himself in these cold post-election time. Dividing the power between the powerless – this is what plagues the “coalition”. Aliaksandr Milinkevich decided to give up the amorphous alliance and create a new movement, with a strictly vertical structure and him on top of it.

The main body of the movement will (at least, this is what Milinkevich plans) consist of people, who protest Lukashenka, but do not want to be associated with the opposition establishment.

Aliaksandr Milinkevich believes, that the movement “For Freedom” should unite those, who “are ready to work as one fist, one headquarters, with one leader”. Instead of uniting the opposition leaders, which proved to be impossible, he wants to unite the opposition activists.
