The President of Ukraine stated that he is ready for presidential elections if international partners can ensure security during their conduct. Zelenskyy is ready for changes to election legislation during martial law and awaits proposals from parliament. The President of Ukraine stated this in a comment to journalists on December 9 during an online briefing during a visit to Italy and the Vatican, writes "Ukrainska Pravda".
Zelenskyy was asked whether the US was pressuring Ukraine on the issue of elections and whether delegations discussed possible presidential elections in Ukraine.
“I did not discuss this issue. The issue of elections in Ukraine, it seems to me, primarily depends on our people, and it is a matter for the people of Ukraine, not the people of other states. With all due respect to our partners.
To be honest, I am ready for elections…
To hold elections, there are two issues – first and foremost, security: how to do this under strikes, rockets, how our military personnel will vote; second – the legal framework for the legitimacy of holding elections. And if the US President, our partners, raise this question, I will answer very briefly: Look, I am ready for elections.
Moreover – I am now asking the USA to help me, perhaps together with European colleagues, to guarantee security for holding elections. Then, within the next 60-90 days, Ukraine will be ready to hold elections. I personally have the will and readiness for this.
I ask that the deputies of our faction, parliamentarians, prepare legislative proposals regarding the possibility of changing the legislative framework and the election law during martial law. They should prepare this for me.
I will be in Ukraine on Wednesday, I am waiting for proposals from partners and deputies, and I am ready to go to elections."
Zelenskyy called "inadequate" assumptions that he is allegedly clinging to the presidential chair and that is why the war in Ukraine continues.
