The metro explained why the familiar smell of the underground will disappear.

A Belarusian woman asked the Minsk Metro on Threads about the smell in the subway. They explained.

«Creosote is an oily liquid with a strong odor, obtained from tar. It emits its aroma in the tunnel conditions, and moving trains spread it across the stations,» — representatives of the metro replied.

However, this smell may soon disappear.

«Currently, old wooden sleepers are being replaced with concrete ones, so the smell of creosote is gradually disappearing, especially on new lines,» — the metro explained,
