On December 15, the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine reported a strike on the strategic Astrakhan gas processing plant in Russia.

According to the AFU General Staff, the plant is a key enterprise of the Russian oil and gas industry, annually producing up to 3.5 million tons of sulfur, which is used for the production of explosives for the needs of the Russian military-industrial complex.

Explosions and a large fire were recorded on the territory of the plant; the extent of the damage is being clarified.

The AFU emphasized that they will continue measures to undermine the offensive potential of Russian troops and compel Russia to cease military aggression against Ukraine.

Astrakhan region Governor Igor Babushkin reported a "massive AFU attack" on the region, targeting industrial and energy facilities. According to him, falling debris caused localized fires that have already been extinguished, with no casualties.

Since the beginning of 2024, oil refineries and other facilities of the fuel and energy complex in Russia and in the occupied territories have regularly suffered from Ukrainian drone attacks. The goals of these operations, according to the General Staff, are to undermine Russia's military-economic potential and its ability to supply the occupying forces with fuel, ammunition, and weaponry.
