Grandmother went to court to deprive daughter and son-in-law of parental rights
In the Horki district, a court case was heard regarding the deprivation of parental rights of a father and mother who had shirked their duties. Notably, the request came from the children's grandmother — for a one-year-old girl and a two-year-old boy, writes Onliner.by.
An inspection showed that the 25-year-old mother and 39-year-old father systematically neglected the upbringing and support of their children. From May 2024 to February 2025, the children were recognized as being in a socially dangerous situation because the parents did not follow important medical recommendations for them.
Work with the family yielded no results. Already in August, the children were again recognized as being in a socially dangerous situation due to the immoral lifestyle of the parents, their abuse of their rights, and cruel treatment of the children. Furthermore, improper spending of childcare benefits was established.
The parents were provided with support and assistance. However, nothing changed in the family. Since February of this year, the mother systematically left home, leaving the children with the grandmother. She was also brought to administrative responsibility for unlawful behavior. The father has not lived with the family for more than a year, does not participate in the upbringing and support of the children, has not worked for a long time, and lives on casual earnings.
Considering all this information, the prosecutor of the Horki district filed a lawsuit with the court to deprive the parents of their parental rights. The mother did not appear at the court hearing. The father did not acknowledge the claims and assured that he would mend his ways.
Nevertheless, the Horki District Court fully granted the prosecutor's application — the mother and father were deprived of their parental rights. The decision has not entered into legal force and can therefore still be appealed and protested.
