According to official information, the people on board were not injured, but the aircraft sustained damage. The IAC has formed a special commission which has begun investigating the circumstances of the incident.
Unofficial sources in the aviation community reported that the damage resulted from a hard landing. It is preliminarily noted that the aircraft can be repaired — there is no talk of writing it off. There were two people in the aircraft: an experienced pilot-instructor and a cadet. Both remained unharmed.
Khozhava airfield has an unpaved runway. In the winter period, such runways are particularly challenging to operate due to ground freezing, uneven surface density, reduced traction, and the effect of crosswinds during landing approaches. For training flights in the cold season, these factors significantly increase the risk of an abnormal landing, even with an instructor on board.
The situation was commented on by the airfield director, Anatol Baranchyk. According to him, the commission studied the circumstances and has no claims against the airfield: the runway meets certification requirements, and the unsuccessful landing occurred due to pilot error.
