Two Belarusians were detained in Batumi as part of an investigation into illegal drug trafficking. Almost 6 kilograms of methadone, valued at up to 3 million Lari (over a million dollars) on the black market, were confiscated from the suspects.

The operation was carried out by officers of the Central Criminal Police Department of Adjara. The detainees — citizens born in 1992 and 1993 — are suspected of illegal acquisition, possession in particularly large quantities, and facilitating the sale of narcotic drugs, reports Newsgeorgia.ge.

During searches of their personal belongings, their car, and temporary residences, law enforcement officers found methadone prepared for sale, as well as materials for packaging drugs.

They could face up to 20 years in prison, or even life imprisonment.
