Summing up the state of the American economy over the past year, Trump addressed European leaders, noting that they could take a cue from the US. He emphasized that some regions of Europe have become unrecognizable to him, and in a negative sense.

According to the American president, he loves Europe and wishes it prosperity, but believes that the current course harms its development. Trump expressed particular criticism towards the modern Western economic model, which, he claims, is based on constant growth in public spending, mass and uncontrolled migration, and dependence on imports.

He also criticized the trend of relocating heavy industry to other countries and replacing cheap energy with the so-called "green course," noting that such policies harm the European economy.

Trump arrived in Davos with a delay: his plane was forced to return to St. Andrews Air Force Base near Washington due to electrical problems after takeoff. Partially because of this, a planned meeting with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz, who had hoped to discuss with Trump the tensions caused by American claims to Greenland, did not take place.
