Due to debts, a 53-year-old Belarusian had to pay with an apartment in the center of Gomel. Almost a hundred enforcement proceedings were initiated against the man, according to the Main Department of Justice of the Gomel Regional Executive Committee.

Before resorting to radical measures, bailiffs tried other ways to reach the defaulter:

However, nothing helped. The debtor continued to ignore the orders.

As a result, a "spare" apartment belonging to the defaulter was seized (the man's primary residence remained untouched).

Despite unfinished renovations and the lack of a permit for replanning, the apartment in the brick five-story building was in demand.

Six contenders immediately competed for the one-room apartment on Peramohi Avenue, which was put up for electronic auction. They raised the price from the starting 65,900 rubles (equivalent to $23,000) to almost 88,000 rubles (about $30,000 at the exchange rate).

As a result, the 33 "squares" found a new owner, and the former owner was able to pay off his debts.
