He was 71 years old.

Around six in the morning on February 10, an apartment in a residential building on Sotsialisticheskaya Street in Slutsk caught fire. Rescuers found the owner on the floor near a rug in the smoke-filled room.

The man was urgently carried outside and handed over to medics, but they failed to save him: half an hour later, doctors pronounced him dead.

The fire did not manage to destroy the entire apartment — only the rug was damaged, but all the walls were heavily smoke-stained. According to the preliminary version, the cause of the tragedy could have been careless smoking, which often becomes a deadly trap precisely in the early hours.

Although rescuers did not name the owner, it is clear from the works that the deceased is the well-known avant-garde artist Uladzimir Akulau.

Uladzimir Ivanavich Akulau was born in 1954 in Baranavichy, but most of his life was connected with Slutsk.

Akulau also lived and worked in Minsk, where he became one of the prominent participants in Belarusian avant-garde groups.

The artist's works are represented in the collections of the National Center for Contemporary Arts, other Belarusian museums, and numerous private collections around the world.
