In the Olympic Village in Cortina d'Ampezzo, free contraception intended for athletes quickly ran out. According to media reports, about 10,000 condoms prepared by the organizers were taken in just three days after the start of the games.

The publication La Stampa reports that supplies were exhausted very quickly. One of the athletes anonymously noted that a new batch was promised, but when it will arrive is unknown.

For comparison: at the 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, about 300,000 such items were prepared.

Earlier, the head of the International Olympic Committee Athletes' Commission, Emma Terho, announced that participants in the games in Italy would receive gifts: limited edition smartphones, a $500 certificate for accommodation, and a free set of diapers for those with small children.

The 2026 Winter Olympic Games are taking place in northern Italy — in Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo, with some competitions organized in Valtellina and Val di Fiemme. The opening ceremony took place on February 6, and the closing is scheduled for February 22. A total of 116 sets of awards are being contested in 16 sports.

Belarusian athletes are participating in the games under the same conditions as in Paris in 2024: 7 female athletes are admitted to competitions in neutral status and only in individual disciplines.
