Belarus Enters Top 40 Global Arms Importers

In a new report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), Belarus is mentioned as the 32nd largest arms buyer in the world. Purchase volumes accounted for 0.9% of global purchases, up from 0.5% in the previous period (2016-2020), writes the publication «Belorusy i rynok» (Belarusians and the Market).

Almost 100% of the armaments in the 2021-2025 period were received from Russia. Overall, Belarus became the third largest buyer of Russian weapons after India (48%) and China (13%), accounting for approximately 13% of all Russian military-industrial complex exports. Negligible batches of weapons (0.1% and less than 0.05%) during this period came to Belarus from Iran and China, respectively.

Ukraine became the largest importer of armaments, with a share of 9.7% of total global purchases. Their main sources were the USA (41%), Germany (14%), and Poland (9.4%).

India (8.2% of global imports) and Saudi Arabia (6.8%) took second and third place in terms of militarization. The activity of such a Persian Gulf monarchy as Qatar is noteworthy. This country became the fourth with an indicator of 6.4%.

According to SIPRI data, the USA remains the largest exporter. In 2021-2025, they accounted for 42% of the total volume of arms supplies. The key buyers of American weapons were Saudi Arabia (12%), Ukraine (9.4%), and Japan (8.9%).
