Through the Medininkai and Šalčininkai border checkpoints, 33 trucks that were previously detained in Belarus returned to Lithuania from Belarus by 7 AM on Wednesday, said Giedrius Mišutis, a representative of the Lithuanian State Border Guard Service (VSAT), reported LRT.

According to him, 16 trucks returned through the Medininkai checkpoint, and 17 through Šalčininkai.

The VSAT representative emphasized that the inspection of these trucks on the Lithuanian side at both checkpoints is carried out using separate lanes.

“On the Lithuanian side, separate lanes, separate corridors are equipped at both points for incoming trucks. Their inspection is carried out very promptly. This is a temporary measure, taken considering that they have started to be released and are returning from Belarus,” G. Mišutis noted. He also drew attention to the fact that almost all trucks detained in Belarus that are returning to Lithuania are driven by Belarusian citizens who have residence permits in Lithuania.

“Practically all drivers of these trucks with Lithuanian license plates are citizens of Belarus with residence permits in Lithuania. (...) There was one Polish citizen and possibly one or two more drivers not from Belarus,” said the VSAT representative.

According to G. Mišutis, trucks returning from Minsk account for approximately one-sixth of all cargo vehicles entering through these checkpoints.

“If we look at the total number of trucks that entered over the last 24 hours, 103 entered through Medininkai, 87 through Šalčininkai, a total of 190. (...) Trucks with Lithuanian license plates, detained in Minsk, constitute approximately one-sixth of the total flow,” he noted.
