A week before the official announcement, users in various cities had already noticed the 5G icon on their phones. Now it's officially confirmed: the network is indeed operational, although it is currently in the stage of gradual deployment.
Currently, 5G is already available in select locations in Minsk, Brest, Vitebsk, Mogilev, and Gomel. Additionally, preparations are underway to launch the network in Grodno.
In total, over a thousand 5G base stations are already operating, and coverage will gradually expand. However, it's important to understand that access to the new connection depends not only on whether there is a signal in a specific location but also on the device — for now, only some Android smartphone models support 5G.
The technical basis for the network is provided by the infrastructure operator beCloud. This means that in the future, other mobile operators will also be able to use this infrastructure and offer 5G to their customers.
The new technology is expected to provide:
- significantly higher internet speeds;
- lower latency (which is important, for example, for online games and video calls);
- more stable network operation in crowded areas.
