The government of Belarus made a decision to change the status of part of the lands in the Gomel region, which were previously considered radioactively dangerous after the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster. This, as stated, is done to return part of the territories to economic use, but with safety control in mind.

Specifically, lands in 10 districts (Bragin, Vetka, Zhlobin, Kalinkavichy, Karma, Lelchytsy, Loyew, Mazyr, Rechytsa, and Chachersk) are no longer considered an exclusion zone. This is about 940 hectares — now they can be used for agriculture or other needs.

Another 378.7 hectares have not become completely "clean," but their status has been softened: from a full ban, they have moved into the category of lands with restricted use. This means that economic activity can be carried out there, but with certain restrictions and constant control.

In total, 1318.8 hectares will be returned to economic circulation. Previously, these territories were not used due to the risk of radioactive contamination.

The authorities emphasize that the use of these lands will be strictly controlled. This applies to the plots themselves and the products that will be grown or produced there, to ensure they comply with safety standards.
