About two tons of eggplants have already been harvested at the Grodno Vegetable Factory. As chief agronomist Tatsiana Aponik noted, for the past ten years they have been cultivating the "Beyoncé" variety, which has adapted well to local conditions and yields a stable harvest — approximately 24 kilograms per square meter.
Harvesting eggplants requires caution: workers use pruners to avoid damaging the plants and carefully inspect each fruit. Vegetables with defects, such as stripes or indentations on the skin, are rejected and do not go on sale.
In addition to eggplants, tomatoes are also ripening in the greenhouses. About two tons of them have also been harvested, and further volumes will increase. The harvest is collected several times a week. Both long-known varieties, such as "Torrero," and new ones — "Xanterra" and "Securitas" — are grown.
It is also reported that the first harvest of sweet peppers is expected around April 20.
