How household chemical prices have changed in five years
You'll be surprised how much everything has become more expensive.

A reader of the "Tochka" publication shared receipts that she had diligently collected for several years. Armed with a collection of receipts from 2020–2021, correspondents visited a popular retail chain to study how much prices have increased for various items, and what has completely disappeared from sale.
Cleaning, Laundry, Household
Let's go through the main products that are on every housewife's shopping list – laundry detergents.
Liquid "Persil" (1.3 L) cost 19.79 rubles five years ago. Now, with a discount, it's 21.99 rubles, and without a promotion, it's as much as 31.14 rubles.
Also found in the receipts was a similar product under the "Laska" brand for 9.57 rubles. It can now be bought for 12.99 rubles, but that's also with a red price tag (discount), the full price is 18.79 rubles.
In 2020, we could buy Domestos cleaner (1 L) for 7.59 rubles. Now it costs 11.99 rubles, but luckily it's on sale for 7.99 rubles.
Algon descaling agent cost 1.99 rubles in 2021. Its price didn't increase significantly – only by 60 kopecks.
4Season sponge wipes for cleaning (3 pcs) then cost only 1.49 rubles, and now they are twice as expensive.
Baking foil cost 2.89 rubles in 2021. We couldn't find the same brand, but now the cheapest option (10 meters) will cost 5.99 rubles.
Care and Hygiene
Fructis "Sos Recovery" shampoo cost 8.09 rubles five years ago, and a similar conditioner cost the same. Today, such products with a 30% discount are already 10.84 rubles, and without the promotional price, they are 15.49 rubles.
Garnier micellar water cost 7.19 rubles in May 2021, now it's 22.09 rubles. Currently, there's a discount on this item, and with -40%, the bottle will cost 13.25 rubles.
The price of "Velvet Hands" cream five years ago was 2.19 rubles. Today, the price has more than doubled and starts from 5.19 rubles. We found it on discount for 3.59 rubles.
Flirt brand liquid soap cost 2.49 rubles six years ago. It didn't get much more expensive – only by 50 kopecks.
Bath salts used to be much cheaper. For example, in May 2021, this Belarusian-made MedicalFORT product cost 1.69 rubles. Now it costs 4.79 rubles.
A pack of Papia three-ply toilet paper (4 pcs) cost 3.39 rubles six years ago, and now it has become 35% more expensive, costing 5.15 rubles, or 4.49 rubles on promotion.
Cotton pads have also doubled in price since then. For example, Flirt (120 pcs) cost 1.79 rubles five years ago, and now it's 3.79 rubles.
Hygienic tissues then cost 29 kopecks, now the cheapest option will cost 35 kopecks.
Toothpaste has also become more expensive. Biomed was sold for 3.99 rubles five years ago. Now this product line costs from 7.59 rubles (almost twice as expensive).
Female hygiene products have significantly increased in price. For example, Kotex tampons in a receipt from April 2021 were 7.19 rubles, and now they are 14.79 rubles, but currently there's a discount – the final price is 9.99 rubles.
Naturella pads are now almost twice as expensive: 5.13 rubles compared to 2.99 rubles five years ago. Currently on promotion, but still for 3.99 rubles.
Ola! daily pantyliners (60 pieces) have increased in price by 40% in five years and cost 6.44 rubles, or 5.19 rubles on promotion.
Decorative Cosmetics
There are several cosmetic items in the receipts – Belarusian brands.
For example, the popular Pin-Up matte lipstick from Luxvisage has almost doubled in price since 2021 and costs 9.39 rubles (five years ago – 4.89 rubles).
Relouis eyebrow pencil is now sold for 9.99 rubles, or 8.49 rubles on promotion. But there were times when this product went for 5.09 rubles.
Also found in five-year-old receipts was a matte lipstick from the same brand for 6.09 rubles. Now it costs 9.29 rubles.
What can we say, prices have risen as expected. At the top of the most expensive items are all laundry products. Some powders have become twice as expensive.
The assortment has also noticeably decreased: many imported products from 2020-2021 receipts simply cannot be found for sale now.
