If the license was revoked or never existed — that's one thing. But if the license simply expired, a lesser penalty can be applied.

Innovations provided by the law «On amendments to codes on administrative responsibility» have become known. The document, already signed by Alexander Lukashenka but not yet officially published, introduces changes including to the Code of Administrative Offenses.

Currently, anyone caught driving without a valid driver's license receives a fine ranging from 5 to 20 basic values.

If they are caught again within a year, the fine remains the same, but instead, they can be assigned community service or receive administrative arrest — up to 15 days.

Now, drivers without licenses are divided into two categories.

If a person has never had a driver's license or has been deprived of the right to drive, the responsibility will remain the same.

However, if the driver simply forgot to renew their license, the penalty for them has been softened. They will have to pay from 2 to 5 basic values (from 90 rubles to 225 rubles).

If they were fined, and they still haven't obtained a new license, the fine for the next time will be in the same range.

The changes will come into force two months after the official publication date.
