According to the publication's sources, Mojtaba, the son of Iran's long-time former supreme leader Ali Khamenei, who was elected leader of the country after his father's death, has already undergone three operations on one leg, and a prosthesis is now expected to be fitted for him. It is also reported that Mojtaba Khamenei had hand surgery, and its functions are gradually recovering.

Furthermore, it is claimed that Khamenei has severe burns to his face and lips, which makes speech difficult. Due to this, he reportedly has limited ability to communicate in person and uses correspondence through intermediaries. He will undergo plastic surgery soon.

The article also states that the public appearances of Iran's supreme leader are limited, and access to him is strictly controlled. Khamenei's decisions are reportedly conveyed through trusted individuals and military officials. He also receives reports and responses from officials in envelopes, the delivery of which involves an entire chain of couriers and functionaries. "They travel on highways and rural roads, by car and motorcycle, until they reach his hideout," writes NYT. The generals of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, who now truly govern the country, do not visit the supreme leader, fearing to expose themselves and fall victim to liquidation.
