On Sunday, DPRK authorities held a solemn ceremony in Pyongyang to unveil a monument to North Korean servicemen who died in battles in the Kursk region. A "Memorial Museum of Combat Exploits in a Foreign Military Operation" was also opened, reports the Korean Central News Agency.
DPRK leader Kim Jong Un, the country's Minister of Defense No Gwang Chol, and other high-ranking officials attended the event. From Russia, Defense Minister Andrei Belousov and State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin arrived for the event.
The latter also read out Putin's address, which stated that North Korean servicemen who fought in the Kursk region "will forever remain in the heart of every citizen of Russia."
According to South Korean intelligence, about six thousand servicemen from the DPRK were killed and wounded fighting on Russia's side, but these data may be overstated.
Meanwhile, thousands of North Korean soldiers may still be in the frontline zone.
