The tragedy occurred on January 4, 2025, near the village of Kasynichy. First, a 44-year-old Mercedes-Benz driver was speeding and hit a 55-year-old man who was crossing the road. The court determined that the driver noticed the pedestrian but did not manage to stop in time. The victim sustained severe injuries.

A few minutes later, a Chrysler Voyager was traveling along the same section of the road. Its driver saw a person lying on the carriageway but also did not brake to a complete stop and ran over him again.

The man died on the spot from the injuries sustained.

The court concluded that both drivers could have avoided the collision if they had applied emergency braking in time. Both were found guilty.

The Mercedes-Benz driver was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months of restriction of liberty, and the Chrysler Voyager driver to 4 years of restriction of liberty. Both were also deprived of the right to drive vehicles for 5 years.

In addition, the court ordered compensation for moral damages to the victim's relatives: 45 thousand rubles from the enterprise that owned the Mercedes-Benz, and 25 thousand rubles from the second driver.

The verdict has not yet entered into force and can be appealed.
