Near Minsk, the slalom canal came alive for the first time in a long time
On May 19, the canal near the agro-town of Zhdanovichi, designed for canoe slalom, was filled with a strong stream of water, though usually there is almost no water there. This likely happened due to a technical discharge of water from the Zaslavl Reservoir (Minsk Sea). As a result, the track took on the appearance of a real mountain river, writes Pristalica.by.
Kayakers and other water sports enthusiasts even appeared on the scene — they took the opportunity to ride the fast current and get extreme sensations.
Many on social media noted that they had never seen the canal in such a state before, as it remains dry most of the time. Some users even initially thought that the video was generated by neural networks — so unusual did the water flow look.
This facility was built in 1981 as a track for canoe slalom competitions and was used for athlete training. However, it was later neglected: water rarely gets there and only under certain technical conditions. The last time this happened was two years ago.
