Ukraine strives for peace, just like US President Donald Trump and the Europeans, but Russian dictator Vladimir Putin has no intention of stopping the war. This was stated by the President of Ukraine in an interview with Fox News, writes UNIAN.
Zelenskyy noted that Kyiv continues to insist on a ceasefire that could pave the way for a final peaceful settlement, but Putin is not interested in any dialogue. He added that they last spoke in 2020.
"We want to stop this war. President Trump wants to stop this war, and the Europeans want to stop it. Putin doesn't. We call for an end to this war every day... to agree at least on a temporary ceasefire and allow diplomats to negotiate. But Putin doesn't want that. That's the problem," Zelenskyy said.
He added that that's why it's necessary to fight back, to be decisive and strong.
Zelenskyy also mentioned attacks on Russian territory, noting that Putin is losing the initiative in the war.
"Putin is losing 30,000 soldiers a month. The losses are huge, but he doesn't want to stop this war. Therefore, the initiative is no longer in Putin's hands," he stated.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine also counts on sanctions, and the bill prepared by the late Senator Lindsey Graham is very important.
