Turkish black watermelons have appeared in Belarusian stores. How do they taste?
A novelty has started selling in Minsk retail chains — Turkish watermelons with very dark skin at a price of 4.89 rubles per kilogram. 'Tochka' journalists tasted this variety to check how it differs from ordinary watermelons.
The fruits themselves are quite small — weighing approximately three kilograms. Their main feature is the dark color of the watermelon, which creates intrigue as to whether the flesh is as dark as in the case of yellow watermelons.
However, upon cutting, buyers are met with slight disappointment: underneath the dark skin lies ordinary red flesh with a familiar aroma.
Opinions of those who tried the Turkish novelty were divided, but most agreed that it differs little from local watermelons.
One of the main advantages is the almost complete absence of large black seeds. Instead, there are small white seeds.
The fruit is very juicy and crunches pleasantly when cut.
The watermelon does not have a rich sugary taste. Its sweetness is very light. This will appeal to those who don't like overly sweet fruits, but for lovers of classic taste, it might not be enough.
Some of the tasters noted that the fruit seemed very ordinary and more watery to them, so they saw no point in overpaying for an unusual color.
