Man Drowns in Chalk Quarry in Lyuban District
On the night of August 1-2, a tragedy occurred in the Lyuban district at one of the chalk quarries, which has recently become an unofficial recreation spot for local residents and visitors to the district, reports the local district newspaper "Golas Lyubanshchyny".

A company of young people was relaxing near the reservoir. Around midnight, they decided to swim or dive into the deep water.
One of the men entered the water and did not come back out. Friends saw him go under. One of them tried to dive in and help, but the great depth of the quarry and the darkness prevented them from finding the person.
Eyewitnesses immediately reported the incident to the Ministry of Emergency Situations. However, under such conditions, the search was very difficult. Search operations involving divers continued in the morning.
It is preliminarily known that the company was consuming alcohol. The quarry itself is not equipped for safe swimming: there is no gentle entry into the water, and great depth begins almost immediately near the shore.
The deceased man, born in 1999, was a resident of the Stolbtsy district.
