Sean Avery, a well-known former National Hockey League player and the league's chief provocateur, starred in Christopher Nolan's large-scale blockbuster "Odyssey," writes "Belarusian Hockey" citing The Athletic.
The former athlete played Laodamas, one of the loyal warriors from Odysseus's team, portrayed by the famous actor Matt Damon.
Contrary to expectations, Avery doesn't just have a short cameo, but a full-fledged supporting role with a significant amount of screen time. In one of the key scenes, he has lines, and in the film's finale, it is his character who participates in saving the main hero.
Interestingly, during the filming of one of the action scenes, Matt Damon and Jimmy Gonzalez argued about who could run faster. Hearing this, Avery declared: "I will destroy you both right now," after which, in the very next take, he effortlessly outran both Hollywood actors in heavy armor.
"Odyssey" is already the third consecutive Christopher Nolan film in which Sean Avery has starred. Previously, the director cast him in small roles in "Tenet" (2020) and "Oppenheimer" (2023).
Avery himself notes that Nolan, like a good hockey coach, simply values people who come to the set maximally prepared for intense work and understand the high responsibility.
