Trump announced that he had instructed American negotiators to обязательно include this issue in any future negotiations with Iran. He reacted this way to Tehran's demands for compensation for damages caused to Iran as a result of months of American strikes.
The American president stated that previously the issue of possible compensations from Iran was not discussed in negotiations between the two countries. Now, according to him, the US will demand payments in return.
In particular, Trump intends to demand compensation for American servicemen who died or were wounded as a result of attacks that he links to Iran. Among the examples, he named the terrorist attack against the American destroyer USS Cole in 2000. As a result of this attack, 17 American servicemen died, and several dozen more were wounded.
In addition, Trump believes that Iran should pay compensation to relatives of people who died during protests in the Islamic Republic itself.
