Spotify to Start Tagging AI Artists and Remove Them from Recommendations
Spotify will start labeling artist profiles that are backed by an AI-generated image.
Music by such artists will by default disappear from editorial and algorithmic recommendations. The company announced this in its press release. However, the changes will only affect the visual content of musicians, but not their tracks.
Starting in September, an "AI Persona" tag will appear on the pages of such AI artists. It will be displayed in the artist's profile, search results, and playlists. Users will also be able to find out whether the project author himself reported the use of a fictional persona, or if Spotify established this.
Artists were invited to voluntarily indicate that their profile represents a character created by a neural network. However, Spotify does not intend to rely solely on their declarations. The company will independently verify profiles whose names and images resemble AI personas.
Music by AI personas will by default not be included in selections and personal recommendations.
