Belarusian bus driver helped passenger transport a lot of money across the border
The violation was detected during the processing of an international bus service at the Brest border crossing point. The inspector's attention was drawn to the bus driver — a citizen of Belarus. The man showed only a small sum of personal money but did not declare more than 32 thousand US dollars, which customs officers found in his pockets and underwear.
It later turned out that the driver agreed to help a citizen of Ukraine illegally transport cash across the border. The Ukrainian was also traveling on the same bus and hid more than 10 thousand dollars among his belongings.
Thus, the total amount of cash that the Ukrainian citizen attempted to illegally move across the customs border exceeded 42 thousand dollars in equivalent.
Based on this fact, the Brest Customs initiated a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 228 of the Criminal Code of Belarus. The sanction of the article provides for punishment, including imprisonment for up to five years.
