Coale Again Gives Hope for the Release of Belarusian Political Prisoners
US Special Representative for Belarus John Coale was asked on the social network X if the release of political prisoners could be expected in the near future.
Yana Kavalyova — sister of political prisoner Ilya Veremeev, who was detained in February 2022 and sentenced to eight years in a penal colony, asked Coale: «Can we hope for the release of political prisoners in the near future?»
Coale replied with one word: «Yes».
Earlier, in June, when asked on the social network X when to expect him in Minsk, the American special representative replied: «Soon». Prior to this, Coale stated that he had not yet finished his work on the release of political prisoners and urged not to lose hope.
And to Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's post thanking the American side, Coale replied: «More [releases] are ahead».
To a question from «Nasha Niva» during the «New Belarus» conference, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya assured that the humanitarian track continues.
«This is not a pause, but circumstances. We understand that negotiating with the regime is difficult, but we are in constant contact with Mr. John Coale and are very grateful to him, Donald Trump, and Marco Rubio for facilitating this humanitarian track. Follow Mr. Coale's social media, he says good news is expected,» — she said.
According to the American side, the US has facilitated the release of more than 500 Belarusian political prisoners in total.
