Myanmar Embassy Opens in Minsk

On August 21, the Embassy of Myanmar opened in the Belarusian capital. The ceremony took place during the visit of Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing to Belarus, Belta reports .

Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhenkov called the opening of the diplomatic mission "a new page in the history of bilateral diplomatic relations." Myanmar Foreign Minister Wunna Maung Lwin also participated in the ceremony. The address of the new embassy has not yet been announced.

Diplomatic relations between Belarus and Myanmar were established on September 22, 1999. Previously, Myanmar fell under the responsibility of the Belarusian embassy in Vietnam.

During a meeting with Min Aung Hlaing, Alexander Lukashenka stated that Belarus has all the necessary technologies to help Myanmar, train its specialists, and provide the country with the necessary resources.

Lukashenka and the President of Myanmar also met the day before. The specific content of the conversation was not officially reported. According to the Belarusian leader, they discussed issues that "cannot be publicly announced and discussed."

On August 20, a Belarusian-Myanmar business forum was held in Minsk. The Myanmar delegation also held meetings with Prime Minister Alexander Turchin and the heads of both chambers of the National Assembly — Igor Sergeyenko and Natalya Kochanova. In addition, a friendship group was established for cooperation between the parliamentarians of the two countries.
