Stores in Belarus have started selling broccoli and cauliflower grown in our country. An experimental harvest was obtained at the 'Vasilishki' agricultural enterprise in Shchuchyn district, reported on STB.

The enterprise decided to grow these crops at the suggestion of a large retail chain. 50 ares of land were allocated for the experiment.

However, growing broccoli and cauliflower was not an easy task for the agronomists. These crops require significantly more water than ordinary white cabbage. Additionally, seeds were first planted in greenhouses in May, and after warming, the seedlings were transferred to open ground.

During the first harvest, the agronomists obtained about 300 kilograms of produce. However, the inflorescences ripen unevenly, so the harvest is collected gradually. The first batch has already been sent to stores.

Specialists note that the technology will have to be improved with further cultivation. It is difficult for domestic produce to compete with imported goods, but Belarusian agronomists believe that their broccoli and cauliflower can have an advantage due to the shorter distance from producer to buyer and a more environmentally friendly approach.

Currently, the agricultural enterprise is awaiting feedback from buyers to understand whether the experiment should be expanded.
