Putin and Trump discussed the war in Ukraine
Russian President Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with US President Donald Trump on Tuesday for the first time since early July. According to Putin's aide Yuri Ushakov, the main topic of the talks was the settlement of the war in Ukraine.

The parties also discussed the results of recent visits to Moscow and Kyiv by US special envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Whitkoff.
Ushakov stated that Putin informed Trump about the situation on the front and the Russian vision for further developments. He also reported that the Russian president discussed what the US could do to accelerate the end of hostilities.
Separately, according to Ushakov, Putin assured Trump that Russia allegedly has no aggressive plans towards European countries. He called intelligence information about possible Russian provocations against NATO states "myths" which, in Moscow's view, are used to justify further support for Ukraine.
The Russian side assessed the results of Whitkoff's and Kushner's visit to Moscow and Kyiv positively. However, according to sources from Bloomberg and Financial Times, the talks did not bring any significant breakthrough. The publications' interlocutors claimed that Putin is still determined to continue the war and expects a complete capture of Donbas within the next six months.
