Trump Promised $5,000 to Every Adult American if Republicans Retain Control of Congress
The American president, apparently, for the first time in history, is promising such payments to Americans in the context of a voter recruitment campaign.

US President Donald Trump has promised to pay every adult US citizen $5,000 if Republicans retain control of the House of Representatives and the Senate in the upcoming midterm elections in early November, writes the BBC.
Trump made this statement during a speech at the Republican Party convention in Dallas, Texas.
«If Republicans retain the House of Representatives and the US Senate, then thanks to our incredible economic success… I will pay every adult citizen of the United States dividends totaling $5,000,» the president said.
He explained that it would be «similar to how successful companies pay dividends to investors.»
«The only restriction is that the dividends must be spent in the USA,» Trump added.
«We don't want you to go to Canada and spend money there. We don't want you to go to China, Germany… You must spend the money in the USA,» he said.

Furthermore, it remains unclear who exactly will channel these funds, how the American government will monitor how they will be spent, and indeed, how legal such payments are in the first place.
Trump often puts forward very unusual ideas during rallies to attract attention. In 2025, the number of adult residents in the US was approximately 267 million people.
This means that paying all of them «Trump's dividends» totaling $5,000 would require $1.34 trillion (however, not all residents of the country are its citizens).
Currently, the Democratic Party leads in most public opinion polls and has serious chances of gaining control of the House of Representatives and even the Senate.
During his speech in Texas, Trump stated that a Republican Party defeat in November would mean that Americans «will lose their borders, lose tax cuts, and lose security.»
«You will face complete hell again, just like two years ago,» the US president added.
According to him, the US was «a laughingstock for the whole world,» but now no one laughs at them anymore.
