Historian Iryna Ramanava has released her new book titled "Chips Fly. Children of Special Settlers: Belarus—Kotlas—Belarus".

The monograph explores the socio-psychological and moral-ethical consequences of dekulakization and forced deportations in the USSR.

By drawing on diverse sources, the author goes beyond describing repression and analyzes the liminal status of the victims, the mechanisms for constructing a "presumption of guilt" in Soviet society, and its impact on the lives of survivors and their children.

The researcher examines the complex intertwining of state violence, individual identity, collective memory, and the struggle for dignity. The concept of intergenerational trauma transmission is conceptualized as a conscious process of meaning-making and social resistance.

Totalitarian violence reverberates through generations, and memory becomes a field of resistance: the search for recognition and justice continues even in the absence of institutional resolution.

On October 16, a discussion will be held in Vilnius to mark the publication of this book. Literary critic Tsikhan Charniakevich will participate, in addition to the author herself.

Venue: Tautinių bendrijų namai (House of National Communities), Raugyklos g. 25.

Time: 18:15—19:00.
