In Gomel, a pack of dogs attacked a woman. She is now undergoing a course of rabies vaccinations
On the morning of October 25, near the funeral home on Sasnovaya Street in Gomel, three stray dogs attacked a 50-year-old woman. The animals bit her several times, leaving deep wounds and numerous scratches on both legs, writes the "Mocnyja Naviny" (Strong News) publication.
The woman managed to fight off the dogs and first went to the emergency room, and then to the regional hospital. According to medical documents, she was prescribed a course of rabies vaccination – a total of five injections are necessary. In addition, in the first hours after the bites, immunoglobulin had to be administered for emergency prevention.
The victim told "Mocnyja Naviny" that she only managed to find the necessary preparation in the evening, although the attack occurred in the morning. According to her, the first medical institutions she contacted reported that the preparation was unavailable.
However, the Gomel Regional Hospital did not confirm this information. Alexander Dauhyala, the deputy chief doctor, told reporters that the necessary medicines are available in sufficient quantities. Later, it was in this hospital that the woman was administered the required preparation.
Hospital No. 3 in Navabielica, where the victim also sought help, refused to comment.
But now, the woman is more concerned not about the problems with obtaining the preparations, but about the fact that the dangerous dogs continue to be near people. According to her, the animals live on the territory of a house that is actually neglected but remains residential, meaning the dogs have owners.
A children's polyclinic and a school are located nearby, so children regularly use this road. The woman fears that the attack might repeat, and next time, children could become victims.
She believes it is necessary to find out the conditions in which the dogs are kept and why they behave so aggressively. In her opinion, it is possible that the animals are not fed properly.
The victim contacted the police. There, she was informed that the owner of the dogs could face a fine for walking animals without leashes and muzzles. It also turned out that the police had received a similar statement six months ago: at that time, a person was also bitten by these same dogs.
The woman's statement was accepted, and she is now awaiting an official response regarding the measures taken.
Meanwhile, the victim continues her course of rabies vaccination. She has two more injections to go.
