"I think so. They haven't had them for a long time. Things are not going very well. I think now is an important time to hold elections. They are using the war not to hold elections, but the Ukrainian people should have that opportunity. Maybe Zelensky will win. I don't know who will win. But they haven't had elections in a long time. You know, they talk about democracy, but at some point, it stops being a democracy," Donald Trump replied.
The last presidential elections in Ukraine took place in the spring of 2019, when Volodymyr Zelensky won. The next elections were supposed, according to the Constitution, to be held in 2024, but due to the war, they have not been held. According to Trump's peace plan, elections should be held within 100 days of concluding a ceasefire.
