This is reported by Bloomberg, citing Ahmad Ahmadian, executive director of the American organization Holistic Resilience. Starlink has not officially commented on this information.
Using Starlink receivers in Iran is officially banned, but activists are smuggling equipment across the border despite the risks. According to Ahmadian's estimates, there are now more than 50,000 such devices in the country.
"From day one, we've seen videos from all corners of the country. People have come up with original ways to share Starlink bandwidth — creating systems that allow people outside of Iran to connect with their families," Ahmadian told FT.
