"Tore His Diaphragm and Intestines, Learned to Walk Again." Grandson of "Kalykhanka" Author Vasiliy Rainchyk Tells How He Got into a Terrible Accident

"I spent a week in a coma and learned to walk again," the young man begins his story, recalling a period of his life when he was not involved in music, but in selling plastic windows.

It all started with a late-night call from a colleague who asked Vasiliy to drive him to his girlfriend's place, thinking she was cheating on him.

"I picked him up. As we drove, he drank half a bottle of vodka. We arrived at the location, he went up to his girlfriend. While I waited for him, I fell asleep in the car."

Vasiliy woke up with a migraine, and his colleague never returned.

"I told him to go to hell, packed up, and drove home. Because I had a headache, I didn't turn on the music. Because I was a bit cold, I cranked up the heater. By the time I got to the Minsk Ring Road (MKAD), the car had warmed up. And I didn't even realize I was starting to doze off."

Vasiliy woke up to the hum of the engine.

"And there I was, flying straight into an underpass (I was going about 110 km per hour). I knew I was in an old car, and if I hit it head-on, my chances would be slim. And at the moment before I hit, I managed to sharply turn the steering wheel towards a concrete fence – so I hit it not head-on, but slightly sideways."

The young man was literally a couple of minutes from his home. Next – "a black picture and the absence of everything, no light tunnels."

At this point, Vasiliy was able to open his eyes for a moment and, fueled by adrenaline, tried to get out of the car.

"Being 100% sure I was intact, I started trying to get up. First, I decided to unbuckle the seatbelt with my left hand – and my brain was making the movement, but my hand just dangled like a piece of cloth – it was shattered into 10 pieces."

At the same time, the young man felt a sharp pain in his abdomen – it turned out that the seatbelt had torn his diaphragm and intestines. Additionally, upon impact, the car's engine flew into the passenger compartment, breaking Vasiliy's legs and thigh.

Before the ambulance and police arrived, the young man had time to experience the full spectrum of pain.

Afterward, there was a series of surgeries, a coma, and a difficult recovery, during which Vasiliy literally had to learn to walk again. Now he celebrates three birthdays: his traditional one, the day he got into the accident, and the day he emerged from the coma.
