On the anniversary of the tragedy at the Chernobyl NPP, the "Chernobyl Way" action traditionally took place in Belarus. However, in recent years, due to mass repression, it has become impossible to hold it. Therefore, Belarusians now gather for rallies in memory of the tragedy abroad.

In Vilnius, a rally and concert took place in Kudirka Square. About fifty people gathered — they came with historical flags of Belarus, as well as with the flags of Ukraine and Lithuania, "Salidarnasc" reports. The resolution of Belarusian public organizations for the 40th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster was displayed on posters.
From the stage, among other things, an excerpt from Svetlana Alexievich's "Chernobyl Prayer" was heard in Lithuanian.
Dzmitry Kuchuk, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's advisor on environmental issues, drew parallels from the stage with the COVID-19 epidemic, which the authorities kept silent about, and once again reminded about the threats posed by the Belarusian nuclear power plant and Russian nuclear weapons to Belarus and Europe.
In memory of the victims and liquidators, diplomats from various countries, representatives of Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Office, public activists and human rights defenders, including Ales Bialiatski and other "Viasna members" who are celebrating the organization's 30th anniversary today, laid flowers at the "Mother of Chernobyl" monument in Vilnius's Lev Sapieha Park.

Belarusians in Warsaw also joined the "Chernobyl Way". On April 26, more than 100 people gathered near the Copernicus monument, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya's Office reports.

The rally was led by musician Aliaksandr Pamidorau. Participants held posters with portraits of political prisoners and banners against the deployment of nuclear weapons.
