A speeding car crashed into a crowd of pedestrians in the center of Leipzig
The incident occurred on Grimmaische Straße, where there are many shops and usually many people. As a result of the collision, at least one person died, and about two dozen more people sustained injuries, including two serious ones, reports Spiegel.

Police and emergency services immediately arrived at the scene, and the area was cordoned off.
Police reported that the car driver initially fled the scene, but was later apprehended and no longer poses a threat. His motives and whether his actions were deliberate are not yet known. An investigation is currently underway to ascertain all the circumstances of the incident.
The mayor of Leipzig stated that he was shocked by what happened and expressed condolences to the injured and the relatives of the deceased.
Initially, various reports emerged regarding the number of casualties, but it was later clarified that one person had died. The total number of injured reaches up to 20.
