Kanye West gathered 118 thousand people at a concert in Istanbul. He says it's the biggest stadium concert in history

American rapper Kanye West, also known as Ye, gathered 118,000 fans at a concert in Istanbul on May 30, Turkey's state agency Anadolu reported.

Among the spectators were fans from Great Britain, Germany, France, the Netherlands, Italy, Russia, Poland, and the Middle East.

This was the rapper's first concert in Europe since 2014 and his first in Turkey.

"I just want to tell all of you, we just broke the record, 118 thousand, the biggest stadium performance of all time," West said at the concert.

West faced a wave of concert cancellations across Europe this summer following years of anti-Semitic remarks, including statements praising Adolf Hitler and releasing content using Nazi symbolism, writes Reuters. For example, he was criticized for the release of "Heil Hitler."

Kanye West's concerts were canceled in the UK, Netherlands, and Poland.

In January, the rapper placed a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal, in which he renounced his past admiration for Hitler and apologized for his behavior, which he attributed to undiagnosed brain trauma and untreated bipolar disorder.

However, West's commercial success is incredible. His latest studio album Bully debuted at No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart immediately after its release earlier this year. The rapper has 24 Grammy Awards and 10 albums that have reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200, making him one of the most decorated artists in chart history, writes Billboard.
