Large oil refinery catches fire in Tyumen. It's 2000 kilometers from Ukraine

On June 6, a large fire occurred at a local oil refinery in Tyumen, Russia, which belongs to the "Rusinvest" company. This is the largest independent oil refinery in Russia and the only industrial oil refinery in the Ural Federal District, writes The Moscow Times.

According to official information, the fire occurred at a petroleum product purification unit due to a violation of the technological process. Authorities deny any connection between the incident and a possible drone attack, stating that reports of a strike by Ukrainian drones do not correspond to reality.

The fire was assigned a high level of danger. Approximately 80 rescuers and 23 units of equipment were involved in its elimination. The fire engulfed a two-section hydrotreating unit for diesel fuel with a capacity of about 3.6 million tons per year.

After several hours, the fire was successfully localized and then completely extinguished. According to Alexander Moor, the governor of Tyumen Oblast, no one was injured. The circumstances of the incident will be clarified during the investigation.

The Tyumen Oil Refinery produces automotive gasoline, Euro-5 standard diesel fuel, liquefied petroleum gases, granulated sulfur, petroleum coke, and other products. According to various estimates, the enterprise's capacity ranges from 6 to 7.5 million tons of oil per year.

After the fire, an increased concentration of combustion products, dust, and soot was recorded in the air in the city. Specialists recommended that residents, especially people with respiratory diseases, spend less time outdoors, keep windows closed, and, if possible, use respiratory protection and air purifiers.

It was previously reported that three drones were destroyed in the area of this plant in October 2025, but at that time, serious consequences for the enterprise were prevented.
