Among these countries are 13 African states, six from the Asia-Pacific region, including the Philippines and Vietnam, four European countries (Armenia, North Macedonia, Montenegro, and Slovakia), as well as Algeria, Egypt, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Guatemala, and Suriname.
The recalled diplomats were appointed by the previous Joe Biden administration. They will be replaced by personnel who support Trump's priorities and align with his "America First" ideology.
Politico, which also reported on the planned recall of diplomats, calls the move "unusual": although it is common for new presidents to change ambassadors, career diplomats are usually allowed to continue their work.
