Ukraine has sent interceptor drones and a group of experts for them to protect American military bases in Jordan, the president stated in an interview with The New York Times.
According to Zelenskyy, the US requested assistance on Thursday, and the Ukrainian group departed the next day. The White House did not respond to the publication's question about whether the US had requested help from Ukraine.
The American-Israeli war with Iran risks diverting the international community's attention from the war in Ukraine, The New York Times comments. But at the same time, it has given Kyiv an opportunity to use acquired experience and advanced technologies on a new front.
Ukraine offered assistance to American forces and their Middle Eastern allies in defending against Iranian attack drones, which Russia has been using for years in Ukraine.
"Kyiv hopes to gain points in US-mediated peace talks. Relations remain strained. On Thursday, President Donald Trump reiterated that he considers Zelenskyy a greater obstacle to a peace deal than President Vladimir Putin," the publication comments.
The Ukrainian leader told the publication that he wants to help Middle Eastern countries but must also balance these requests with Ukraine's domestic needs.
