The document was valid until 2028.

The passport of Ales Bialiatski, founder of the Human Rights Center "Viasna" and Nobel Peace Prize laureate, has been declared invalid. The document was valid until 2028, writes "Viasna".

The human rights defender was released and forcibly deported to Lithuania on December 13, 2025. In Vilnius, his passport was returned to him, but now, according to the Belarusian Ministry of Internal Affairs system, it is considered invalid.

Ales Bialiatski himself considers this decision arbitrary and illegal: "This is another form of transnational repression, aimed at complicating the lives of deported political prisoners outside the country. The authorities are ritually severing our ties with Belarus. It's a futile endeavor, because Belarus will always be in our actions and hearts."

It recently became known that the passports of several political prisoners, who were released and taken out of Belarus, have been annulled.
