The Trump administration is considering resuming limited strikes on Iran in addition to a US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz as a way out of the stalemate in peace talks, writes the WSJ, citing sources.
According to American officials, this is one of the options the White House considered on Sunday, hours after the collapse of talks in Pakistan.
The US could also resume a full-scale bombing campaign, though officials noted this is less likely given the prospect of further destabilizing the region and, as the WSJ writes, Trump's reluctance to engage in protracted military conflicts.
Among other ideas from the Trump administration is an attempt to establish a shorter-term blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, while simultaneously pressing allies to take responsibility for a future mission to escort ships through the strait.
